New Delhi: A senior Indian Revenue Service Officer has been arrested after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in which a major cash seizure and a bribery racket associated with the gold race have been revealed. 2007 batch IRS officer Amit Kumar Single, serving as Additional Director General in the Directorate of Taxpayer, along with his colleague Harsh Kotak in connection with the alleged bribe of Rs 25 lakh.CBI officials on Monday confirmed that raids on single residences in Delhi and Punjab were about Rs 1 crore cash, 3.5 kg of gold and 2 kg of silver seizure. Operation, after the complaint of La Pinoz Pizza owner Sanam Kapoor, alleged that Singal demanded a total of Rs 45 lakh to settle the income tax notice released earlier this year.According to the complaint, Singal had taken advantage of his previous position as Joint Commissioner in Customs Department, Mumbai, to establish a business relationship with Kapoor, a firm, including a franchise agreement through Parker Impact, a firm, which was registered in his mother’s name. Additional contracts were allegedly arranged with Kotak and other firms associated with his family. Following a commercial dispute, Kapoor alleged that he was pressurized to buy back outlets at the bloated rates. Following the decline, single allegedly influenced the issue of income tax notice against Kapoor in February 2025.Kapoor’s chartered accountant was informed that there was a possibility of adequate punishment due to the impact of the single. In April, Kapoor met Singal at his Delhi office, where the officer allegedly demanded Rs 45 lakh and issued the threats of legal action and financial penalty.Acting on a detailed complaint of Kapoor, the CBI verified the claims, including a four -hour secret recording of the discussion between the parties on 30 May. The next day, the agency carried out a trap operation in Mohali, where Kotak was allegedly caught by a single admitting the first installment of bribe.Singal was later arrested from his residence in Vasant Kunj in Delhi. According to Kapoor’s lawyer Gagandip Jammu, both men have been sent to judicial custody till 13 June.
