‘The way he lived -died towards the neck’: Israel confirmed Hamas leader Muhammad Sinavar in the May 13 strike; Body found inside the tunnel
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet Security Agency on Sunday confirmed that the body of Hamas leader Muhammad Sinavar was found inside a tunnel located under a tunnel located under the European Hospital of Khan Younis in Southern Gaza.The IDF said in a post on X, “Mohammad Sinavar was responsible for the death of countless citizens. He was ended in an IDF and ISA strike on 13 May.” The post said, “His body was found under the European Hospital in Khan Yunis – Sinavar, and Hamas, how they hide behind their citizens and deliberately embed themselves in civic areas, such as hospitals,” Post said, “he died the way he was alive.According to the military, the tunnel was used by Hamas as a command center, the Times of Israel.Israeli fighter jets bombed the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis on 13 May, one of the remaining top leaders of Hamas to kill Muhammad Sinavar.The soldiers rushed to the hospital several days ago, and later retrieved Sinavar’s body along with the bodies of other Hamas members, according to the time of Israel’s report.The Israeli army said Sinavar was killed on an Israeli strike on the tunnel on 13 May. The same strike also killed Hamas’ Rafah Brigade Commander and Group’s South Khan Younis Battalion Commander Mahdi Quara Muhammad Shabana.The IDF said that it found several items related to Sinavar and Shabana inside the tunnel, including ID cards. Weapons were also recovered.The IDF said that the identity process has confirmed that one of the bodies belongs to Sinavar, while other bodies are still being identified.Earlier in May, the Wall Street Journal, citing Hamas and Arab officials, stated that the meeting between Hamas leaders was held to talk about the ceasefire talks between other subjects and their position on a hostage deal. After learning the gathering, the Israeli Air Force started preparing for the strike, the Times of Israel report said. Senior officials believed that it could be canceled over concerns that may be hostage nearby, as Sinavar was known to keep them closer.But once intelligence information revealed that no hostage commanders had, the Israeli Air Force was approved to fulfill the attack. Jets were launched, and the strike was carried out.
Who was Muhammad Sinavar?
A senior military person in Hamas was Muhammad Sear, Gaza, Yahya Sinavar’s younger brother of the former Hamas leader. He was in Israel’s most desired list for several months. Israeli officials said Sinavar had opposed efforts to negotiate a hostage deal and blocked the progress towards a ceasefire. After the death of Hamas top military commander Muhammad Def in July 2024, Sinavar handled the group’s military operations. Yahya Sinavar was made the Samagra Hamas leader after killing Ismail Hanai in Tehran in the same month. When Yahya was killed in the battle of Sinavar in October 2024, Muhammad Sinwar became the leader of Hamas in Gaza Strip.
