‘This is misleading’: Zoharan Mamdani’s video saying this

Zoharan Mamdani said that he would never recognize himself as a black person or as African-American.

A video of New York Mayorl candidate Zoharan Mamdani clearly stated that he does not identify himself as a black person or has gone viral after the New York Times as an African-American person that he has actually done the same on the application of the University of Columbia. The report stated that he examined the Asian race box, but also “Black or African American”.In the viral video, he clearly stated that he does not want to identify as African-American like Elon Musk because it would be misleading. “Are you Arabs, Indians? So will you claim African-American status like Elon Musk?” Mamdani was asked. With a smile, Mammadani said he would not claim that situation. The person who was interviewing Mamdani doubled and asked why he would not consider himself an African while growing up in Uganda and his middle name is Quame.“I am,” said Mamdani, saying that he is proud to be Uganda. “But I think it’s misleading,” Mamdani said referring to the African-American situation.

Reacting to NYT that Mamdani really recognized herself as black as a Colombia application, Mammadani said that he does not consider himself to be either black or African American. But an American who was born in Africa said that his race as a college application was an attempt to represent his “complex background”, which given limited options in front of him, not to get any racial advantage and he was not accepted in Colombia. Mamdani told NYT, “Most college applications do not have a box for Indian-Ugandan, so I checked many boxes trying to catch the perfection of my background.” Mamdani was born to Mahmud Mamdani and Meera Nair in Uganda. None of his parents is African. Mahmud Mamdani was born in India and was raised in Uganda. Meera Nair was born in India and later became an American citizen.
