Three dead, seven Tibet missing in landslide

Beijing: Three people were killed and seven other people went missing in a landslide in Tibet, officials said on Monday. Experts from the Departments of Water and Natural Resources said that two people were injured in landslides, displacing about 200,000 cubic meters of mud and rocks in Muta Township in Cumdo city in Tibet on Sunday night. An official said that the injured people are in a stable position in the hospital. Around 500 rescue teams, medical workers and firefighters, as well as snowfar dogs, are involved in search and rescue operations, supported by ambulances, excavators and telecommunications and power supply facilities, the state-driven Xinhua news agency referred to the officials. Experts said there was a threat to potential secondary landslides triggered by the disaster. Qamdo’s city government allocated five million yuan (about 696,000 USD) for emergency disaster relief. The Emergency Management Ministry initiated a level-iv emergency response to geographical disasters and sent a team to support local rescue efforts, stated in the report.
