New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA), with the aim of creating a “canvas of Gandhian idea” for the 21st century, is ready to start a conservation and restoration project of Rs 45 crore at major Gandhian heritage sites in Maharashtra.This initiative will cover Gandhi Smriti Bhavan, Kasturba Kitchen and Wardha Haat with the aim of preserving their architectural, historical and cultural importance to promote rural development and public engagement.On July 2, a restoration project is being done in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industry (MGIRI), Wardha under the Memorandum of Understanding (MAU) signed with IGNCA. Officials said it would be completed within the 18 -month timeline. The Gandhi Smriti Bhawan, located within the Sevagram Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi lived from 1936 to 1948, served as his operational headquarters during the independence movement. It is a symbol of Gandhian philosophy and simplicity, it is a place of national and international importance. “Magiri Wardha is not only about the conservation of the past-it is about resumeing Bapu’s vision,” the member secretary of the in-charge. Sachchidanand Joshi said. IGNCA member said, “Emergent storytelling, digital heritage walk and artisan hub, Wardha will become a living canvas of Gandhiian for the 21st century.”
