The Trump administration is demanding a Harvard scientist to exist in the country of Russia, which she ran away for fear of political harassment, her lawyer told the AFP on Wednesday.Kasania Petrova, a researcher at Harvard Medical School, was detained by immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) in February when he returned to the United States from a holiday in France.According to a criminal complaint filed on 16 February, Petrova was allegedly halted by customs authorities at Boston Airport to fail to announce organic samples in their belongings.He was later told that his visa was canceled and would be sent back to Russia.Petrova’s lawyer Gregory Romanowski told AFP in an email, “It is true, the government is trying to deport Kasania.”He said, “He will get an opportunity to present his refuge claim and we never expect a decision on his exile case.”According to a criminal complaint, Petrova told the officials that she would be arrested if she returned to Russia for participation in political opposition.Romanowski said, “We will continue to fight for the freedom of Kasania as well as its immigration status in America.”Since returning to the White House in January, US President Donald Trump torn the immigration, emphasized to carry out exile including migrants in higher education.The administration has canceled the visa and deported foreign students involved in protests, alleging supporting the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, whose October 7, 2023 attacks raised the war on Israel.It has also threatened several top level universities to concerns about the decline in educational freedom, including funding freeze and other punishments.
