Uddhav Thackeray says that India (UBT) burns 3-language GR as ‘not only against Hindi, not only against Hindi’

New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday clarified that his party does not oppose the Hindi language, but especially in schools across Maharashtra, standing firm against its “imposing”.Talking to reporters after attending a protest program in South Mumbai, Thackeray commented, where copies of the Government Resolution (GR) of June 17 were burnt on the three -language policy. A similar protest was organized by the Shiv Sena (UBT) units across the state.“We have burnt copies of GR, which means we do not accept it,” Thackeray said. “We do not oppose Hindi, but we will not allow it to be imposed. The government does not understand the reason behind Morch. The injustice has been found in Marathi. The question is, how much pressure are you going to put on students?”On June 17, the GR released by the Government of Maharashtra made Hindi a third language for classes 1 to 5 in English and Marathi medium schools, although it was not mandatory.Thackeray also announced that the protest of July 5 will be held jointly with Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navneman Sena (MNS), a “grand” show of strength and unity on the issue. The Army has argued that the new language policy dilutes the primacy of Marathi, and puts improper academic pressure on young students. The state government has so far formally responded to protests.
