Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, Shabana Mahmood and Wales, are considering introducing mandatory chemical caustation for the most dangerous sexual criminals in the United Kingdom.According to government sources, the proposal is part of a comprehensive effort to address congestion in jail and improve criminal justice system.

Justice Secretary Search for Mandatory Chemical Castation for Some Sexual Criminals

Chemical caustation involves the use of drugs to reduce sexual urge. These drugs include selective serotonin reeptake inhibitors (SSRI) that reduces testosterone levels that reduce sexual views and anti-endrogen.Currently, the program is voluntary, but Mahmood is seeing whether it can be made mandatory for high -risk criminals. Using these drugs, a pilot program began in Southwest England in 2022 and is about to end next year. Officers are planning to expand the tests in 20 more areas before considering national rollouts. The proposal is part of the recommendations made by former Orthodox Justice Secretary David Gauk. He suggested that the government should gather more evidence on the effectiveness of these drugs and study the application in countries such as Germany, Denmark and Poland.Mahmud is expected to address the issue in Parliament this week. In late March 2025, all adults reported by The Guardian had sexual offenses up to 21 percent of the sentence of jail. Gauk recommended that a short jail sentence of less than 12 months should be used only in rare cases. Instead, courts should have more options, such as long -term suspended sentences, delay in punishment for low -risk criminals, and more use of fine or restrictions (eg travel or driving restrictions). To support the victims, expand courts that deal with domestic misconduct and increase the use of electronic tags for those who commit violence against women and girls. It also asks for better training for judges and legal professionals on these issues. Additionally, change the statutory objective of sentencing so that judges and magistrates should consider protecting the victims, as they consider punishment and rehabilitation when passing sentences. He warned that these reforms would only succeed with more money, including expanding the availability of electronic surveillance equipment such as tags. The Conservative Party has strongly criticized Gauk’s recommendations. Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrich said, “By serving a small jail sentence, the stormer is effectively reducing crimes such as theft, theft and attacks. It is a gift for criminals who will be free to humiliate with improinity,” reported by The Guardian.
