Should there be strict rules on political advertisements and money?

‘Attack on the constitution’

Ramesh alleged that during the 2024 general election, “The Prime Minister demanded a mandate four hundred for a new constitution and cheated Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.” He claimed that the voters rejected it and “chose the economic, social and political justice inherent in the current constitution to protect, conserve and further.”He also said that Parliament was weakened, MPs were “suspended only to increase the issues of public anxiety, and that the major law” was “bulldozer” without proper debate. He said that the government “destroyed the autonomy of constitutional bodies” and “destroyed the center-state relations.”

‘Tax terrorism and businesses and institutions threatened

The Congress accused the Modi government of creating an atmosphere of fear, where “regulator vengeance has had a cool effect on the already vocal traders.” The Post further claimed that “the major assets including airports, ports, cement plants and even media houses have been handed over to the group,” referring to a favorite business group.

‘Control on media’

According to the Congress, “Important journalists and news outlets of the government have faced intimidation, arrest and raids.” It was alleged that government advertisements are used to control media content, while taxpayer-funded broadcasters have turned into a “tool to troll the opposition and to push divisive narratives”. The RTI Act, once a tool for accountability, has been “neutord”, the party said.

‘Abuse of misuse of investigative agencies’

The Post claimed that “the ED, CBI, and the Income Tax Department have been deployed to harass and discredit the leaders of various opposition parties, and accused the BJP of raising Rs 8,000 crore through” illegal collections of electoral bonds “. It further said, “People who switch parties and join BJP automatically become Ed-MC and CBI-Mute.”

‘Belgaum hate speech and rift on civil liberties’

The Congress accused the ruling establishment of the government to incite critics, “The protesting farmers were labeled as ‘Khalistanis’, and caste census advocates were rejected as ‘urban Naxal’.” It was also alleged that “Mahatma Gandhi’s killers are glorified,” while “minority lives in fear,” and “hate speech ministers have been rewarded with promotion.”As the Congress level these allegations, BJP leaders responded in 1975 recalling collective arrests, censorship and suspension of Civil Liberty during the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi. Prime Minister Modi posted on X, called it “one of the deepest chapters in the history of India”.
