TeaHe has deployed nuclear weapons in the UK for the first time since 2008, in a hint to Russian President Vladimir Putin that it is committed to European security. On 16 July, an American military aircraft flew with its transponder – its identity and location publicly visible – from an American nuclear weapon depot at Kertland Air Force Base in Albuquerk, New Mexico, in an airbase in the city of Lekenth, according to data from an American nuclear weapon depot, defense analysts and open source. The C -17 flight included the US Air Force leading nuclear airlift force, transporting nuclear weapons, and does not fly in any other country’s region, according to William Albert, senior partner at the Pacific Forum. The US and the UK governments have longer policies of not commenting on their nuclear weapons position or location. The most likely aircraft were the new B61–12 thermonuclear bombs, which increased the number of American strategic nuclear weapons in Europe for the first time after the Cold War.Albeck said that the decision to leave flight transponders indicates that the US wants to show Russia that it is not reducing its nuclear capacity in Europe. “Returning US nuclear weapons to Britain is not a small achievement.”The move also indicates that the US is completing more flexible nuclear capabilities for Europe, creating a wide range of options for its forces, said Siddharth Kaushal, a senior research companion at the Royal United Services Institute.Kaushal said, “The capabilities like B61 can contribute to limit the impact of Russia’s large profit in theater-level nonsteric nuclear weapons.”
