Rescuers are working to bring out the residents trapped in Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand for security, as flash floods wreaked havoc in Harsil-Dharli region.According to the Uttarakhand government, a total of 164 people have been brought from Dharli-Harshil to ITBP Matli Helipad. Officials told ANI that all essential commodities are being distributed by helicopter to the affected areas, while those are getting first aid before they are safely sent to their destination as per their convenience.The state government said that, along with the rescue teams, the availability of all types of relief materials is being ensured in the disaster-affected areas of Harshil-Dharhali.Under ‘Operation Dharali’, the army has successfully restored mobile and internet connectivity in Harsil by repairing an optical fiber cable, which is originally for army communication, which was damaged by floods. Army signals worked in the midst of ongoing rescue operations, restoring an important communication lifeline in the area.In another major attempt, close to Harsil, the bridge near Limchigad, which was destroyed by floods, was repaired on August 8 despite heavy rains at night. The army personnel and civil administration were jointly repaired to restore road connectivity.Four days after the flood, a total of 566 people from the affected areas were evacuated by Friday afternoon. Rescue operations are still running for another 300 people who are trapped.At least five people have lost their lives and 50 others are still missing. The state disaster response force (SDRF) is using advanced equipment, including a victim’s detection camera and thermal imaging camera, which is to search for the remaining people. Dog squads are also helping teams on the ground.While the mobile network in Harsil Valley has been restored, the landslide starting from the disaster has disrupted the Char Dham Yatra.
