Salman Khan’s daughter-in-law’s action drama Sikander is facing a difficult fight at the box office, its collections fall daily.
On its third Monday, the film allegedly earned just Rs 29 lakh, which marks one of its lowest single-day figures since its release. However, on Tuesday, the film was seen at a new low of just Rs 25 lakh. Initially despite a strong early weekend, Alexander is now domesticly struggling to dissolve a mark of Rs 110 crore.
Amidst too much fanfare and huge promotion, the film made a good start with a debut of Rs 90 crore, thanks to Khan’s loyal fan Aadhaar and Eid holiday, which helped the film in its highest box office collection of Rs 29 crore. However, Word-of-mouth and mixed reviews suggest that a toll has been taken on its long-term performance. The collection started earning around Rs 17 crore with the film’s earnings in its second week and has now earned just Rs 1.84 crore in its third week. The film released on Eid may expect a good fourth weekend at the box office with the upcoming expanded Easter Holiday. Trade analysts noted that the film can end its dramatic run with more than Rs 115 crore marginal profit until the dramatic resurrection occurs in the coming weekends. It may become one of Salman’s worst performing films at the box office in recent times.
While defending Salman, fellow Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar raised his support, stating that Khan is a flexible figure and compared it to his detective character Tiger. Talking to Hindustan Times, Akshay said, “Tiger is alive and will always be there.”
The underperformance has raised eyebrows, especially given the history of Salman Khan’s blockbuster hit. The characteristic of Khan, directed by AR Murugadoss and characterized by an supporting artist, was expected to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
