Srinagar: 19 major roads and tunnel projects on Monday approval for Rs 10,637 crore tunnel projects, including a major tunnel on the historic Mughal Road in the Kashmir Valley, with Ponch in Jammu, has created widespread stimulation in Kashmir.The proposed colleague’s street tunnel, which will convert 84 km Mughal road into an all-visitor road, which provides an important option for the Srinagar-Jamu National Highway, has encouraged political leaders across the board. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “This is a major achievement of my government.”The construction of a modern road on the old Mughal road began in the 1970s during Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s government, but the project made some progress. It was revived under the government of Mufti Mohammad Saeed in 2003, and traffic was allowed till 2009 during Omar Abdullah’s tenure. Although the road is now operational, it remains open only during summer as heavy snowfall on the major parts of the peer street and bafflees forces its closure in winter.In the last eight months, the National Conference Government is emphasizing for the tunnel project on Mughal Road. CM Omar Abdullah told TOI, “We are working hard on it and have organized several rounds of discussions with the Government of India, especially the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Finally, these major projects have been approved.” “The tunnel on Mughal Road is of significant importance as it will provide a year -long connectivity between Kashmir and Jammu. It holds both strategic and commercial values. ,Omar said that since he first went on the Mughal Road in 2009, his party and his government have been advocating the construction of a tunnel. “We have been following it over the years, and I am glad that it has finally been approved,” he said.Among the approved projects, there is also a Sadhana tunnel, which will connect Kupwara to an estimated cost of Rs 3,330 crore from the border area of Karnah. Omar said that he would also do a tunnel project for the Gurez Valley in North Kashmir and will intend to extend the matter with the central government.The Mughal Road also holds historical significance. It was used by the Mughal emperors to enter Kashmir in the 16th century. Emperor Akbar adopted the route to win the region in 1586, and his son, Jahangir died near Rajouri while returning from Kashmir.In a separate statement issued in Srinagar, both LG Manoj Sinha and Omar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for approving these major projects.The national conference was early to take credit, saying that “our government led by Jammu -Kashmir CM Umar Abdullah has successfully assured the India government to take major infrastructure projects such as a tunnel for the Mughal Road Tunnel and Tunnel.”A senior neck politician said the projects were approved as the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir chased him with the central government.
