New Delhi: The funeral of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani began with the state honor in Rajkot on Monday. Rupani was one of those people who lost their lives in the deadly Air India plane accident in Ahmedabad on 12 June.Rupni’s wife Anjali Rupani came to a deep emotional moment, she bid for her final farewell. Surrounded by family members and close friends, she stood on her side as funeral rituals.Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel laid a wreath and gave their final honor to Rupni. Earlier, CM Patel, along with senior cabinet colleagues, stood in silence in the Morchari block of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where Rupni’s mortal remains were placed for public tribute. Health Minister Rushikesh Patel and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi also paid tribute.Former Deputy CM Nitin Patel was one of the first people to visit Morchari, where he met Rupni’s family and increased his condolences.68-year-old Rupani, who was the Chief Minister from August 2016 to September 2021, carried forward Gujarat through an important post-Covid recovery phase.He was one of the 242 passengers and crew members at the London -Bound Air India Flight AI -171 who crashed in Ahmedabad on 12 June.While 241 people died in the aircraft, a passenger miraculously survived. In addition, 29 persons are reported to have died in disaster on the ground, including five MBBS students.
