Las Vegas Dust Storm trigger trigger chaos: power lines down; 27,000 hits by outage

Strong winds and a dust storm brought chaos in Las Vegas on Tuesday, damage to electric poles and tens of thousands of residents due to cutting electricity. According to Fox 5, officials said that about 50 power poles in the Pawan Valley up to 70 mph reached. By 1 pm, NV Energy reported that more than 6,000 customers were still without electricity, although the service was restored to around 14,000 others.The National Weather Service issued a dust store warning for the Central Clark County around 4 pm, expected to reach the wind speed of 60 mph. A dust thunderstorm was reported near Cactus Avenue and Valley View Bulleward. Sahara Avenue and Atlantic Street had electrical lines down, forcing police and firefighters to stop the area. By late noon, Clarke County reported 232 outage, affecting more than 27,000 people. The number kept changing as the situation developed. One of the worst hit areas was one mile of Tropicana Avenue, where 30 power poles were damaged. The road from Sandhill Road to Eastern Avenue was closed and is expected to be closed overnight. NV Energy said that complete repair may take weeks. Businesses were forced to close with stretch. “This is disastrous. We just stock up. I know we are going to lose all this,” a person from Fox 5 said, who runs a chapala Mexican restaurant. “People are not going to pay. I was crying first.” Some residents were not allowed to return home due to risk from fallen lines. Others were trying to cope without electricity or air conditioning. Local resident Muril Cyrus told Fox 5: “I am worried about my fridge and my pets. We have never done this long -term outage.”
