Phule director Anant Mahadevan has addressed the controversy around the release of the film, making it clear that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not cut the film.

No deduction, just slight changes, the director says
Speaking to PTI, Mahadevan said that the board only suggested a minor amendment, not editing. He emphasized that CBFC saw the film as educational and suitable for the youth and that any claim of delayed delays was “exaggerated”.

Delayed objections from the community
The release of the film, originally scheduled for this Friday, is now postponed on 25 April. Mahadevan blamed the delay in objections raised by a part of the Brahmin community, which was upset after seeing the trailer. He reported that the trailer was incorrectly understood and led a back and forth between the opposing groups. The director said that the team wanted to ensure that the film’s message was not lost in the controversy and decided to wait before it was released.
The team opposes peaceful release on struggle.
To avoid unnecessary stress and preserve the spirit of the film, the manufacturers have chosen to postpone the release. Mahadevan said, “We did not want to lose the audience … I will rather come together and watch the film peacefully.” The team is currently attached to the media and audience to clarify misconceptions and present the film in the right light.
Phule is a biographical drama focused on the life of the iconic Social reformer Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, played by Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa respectively. The film aims to highlight his efforts in fighting caste-and-gender-based oppression in the 19th century India.
