Dakar: The United Nations World Food Program played an alarm on Friday to increase hunger in West and Central Africa, as “record levels” need to reach.The agency said in a statement that more than 36 million people are struggling to meet their food needs, a number that may grow up to 52 million people during a lean season amid harvesting in this summer.“Constant conflict, displacement, economic fall and recurrent extremities in West and Central Africa leading millions of people leading to an emergency level of hunger,” said this.WFP had earlier mentioned a “unprecedented crisis” in late March due to a 40 percent decrease in its fund for 2025.The stop of assistance programs under the US Agency for International Development (USAID), when President Donald Trump returns to the White House, has deteriorated the situation, with deductions to help several western countries spend.The WFP said at the end of April that it would have to reduce its workforce by 25 to 30 percent worldwide.The WFP stated that five million people take the risk of losing fully assistance until the necessary funding is obtained.“We are at a tipping point and millions of people are at stake,” said Margot van der Weldon, Regional Director of WFP in West and Central Africa.“Without immediate funds, WFP will be forced to move even further in the number of people and the size of the food rations distributed.”
