Who is Kami Rita? Nepal’s Sherpa broke its record with the 31st Everest Summit

Dubbed as “Everest Man”, Nepal’s Kami Rita, 55, has successfully enhanced the world’s highest mountain for the 31st time. Rita broke her record on Tuesday, climbing her first peak after more than thirty years.According to Mingma Sherpa of the seven summit Trek in Kathmandu, Rita was in good health and reached the summit at around 4 pm under stagnant weather conditions.Mingma, reported by Kathmandu Post, said, “This new feat strengthens his position as a record holder for the highest number of ascension at the top of the world – a record that has not come close.”Kami Rita was a guide for the Indian Army Adventure Wing Everest campaign, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi.
Kami Rita, who is his own Everest man of Nepal?
- Rita’s climbing journey is in 1992 when he joined an expedition in Everest as an assistant staff member.
- His father was also among the first Sherpa guides.
- In a successful mountaineering career spread from 1994 to 2025, Rita has climbed Everest, K2, Cho OU, Lohots and Manslu.
- He scored Everest for the first time in 1994, and since then, he topped the 8,849 meter summit almost every year.
- In the last two years, Rita has covered Mount Everest 30 times, climbing it twice every season.
- According to AP, Rita vowed to climb the summit for the 31st and even 32nd time before this campaign.
Every year, hundreds of climbers try to scale Mount Everest from Nepal’s favor. This season, Nepal has issued over 1,100 permits for climbers, including 458 for Everest only.Everest’s summit first arrived in 1953 by New Josender Edmund Hillary and Nepal’s Tenzing Northern Sherpa.
