Somali-American state senator Umar Fateh, who runs for the mayor of Miniapolis, has become the latest target of racist trolling after unveiling his progressive campaign forum online. The 34 -year -old Democrat, who announced his candidature in December, kept an adventure to increase the city’s minimum wage by 2028 to 2028, freed the rent, and blocked police cooperation with federal immigration officers. But his policy proposal and Somali heritage quickly focused on online hatred, with orthodox commentators to “a terrorist” and “a light version of Zohan Mamdani” branding “a Lawmaker of New York, known for his socialist platform.Between the vitriol, Fateh was asked to “go back to Mogadishu” and was mocked for his appearance. Conservative political strategist Joy Mannarino wrote, “I can tell with the size of his head that he is a Somalian … he should run for the mayor in Mogadishu.” Others raised false questions on his citizenship and gave derogatory references to Somalia, despite Fateh being born in Washington DC and serving in Minnesota Legislature from 2021.Fateh replied, focusing at the stake of the upcoming election. “Protecting all our communities from Donald Trump means not letting MPD interact with ice … Our residents are worth a mayor, who will stand for Donald Trump and say,” No, not in our community, “in a campaign video, he argued that about half of the city could be handled without an official and can be called for investing in public safety reactions.Fateh’s campaign has compared Zoharan Mamdani in New York, whose similar policies have provoked fierce backlash from right -wing commentators. A critic posted, “The incident of multi-cultural Marxist mayors is spreading throughout the United States.”
