Bavuma led the front in the final. After scoring 36 runs in the first innings of 138 in the first innings, he returned with Proteas under pressure in the fourth innings. Digging deeply, the skipper produced 66 from 134 balls, anchoring the third wicket partnership of 147 runs with Aiden Markram (136 runs 207), which laid the foundation for the historic victory.
His recent run with BAT has shown his leadership success. Since becoming the captain, Bavuma has scored more than 900 runs on an average of 57 – a jump that is important for the revival of South Africa in Test cricket.The WTC Final Triumph not only breaks the long ICC title of South Africa – Dating back in the 1998 ICC Nockout Trophy – but also gives the location of Bavuma in the history of Protia as one of their most successful testing leaders.
