New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the government has not taken any decision on updating the National Population Register (NPR).According to the original census 2021 scheme, the NPR update was to be held before the census or with the home-listing phase. Responding to a question, Junior Home Minister Nityanand Rai said, “No decision has been taken to update the NPR. The intention of census has been informed. The period of operating the house-listing and housing census will be informed in the appointed time. ,Toi was the first to report on 17 June that the government was not keen on NPR updates simultaneously with Census 2027. While the intention of conducting the census and the reference date of March 1, 2027 has been reported, there is no official word or notification yet to update the NPR.
