‘You destroyed him after 2011’: Yogaj Singh claims that BCCI wanted MS Dhoni dismissed, Slam selector to end 7 career. Cricket news

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has come out of BCCI selectors in the early 2010s, accusing him of mismanagement of many senior players after India’s 2011 World Cup victory. Speaking in a recent interview with InsidesportYograj claimed that seven major players were “pushed into gutters” after India’s disastrous foreign trial tourism in England and Australia in 2011-12. “You destroyed these boys without any reason,” he said, the major figures of the World Cup winning squad were nominated, which were sidelined: Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammad Kaif, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid. While Dravid and Laksmans soon retired from Test cricket, the rest were gradually phased out in formats and were not part of India’s 2015 World Cup plans. During this period, he also remembered the upheaval around MS Dhoni’s captaincy. According to him, the selection committee including former cricketer Mohinder Amarnath agreed to remove Dhoni as captain after India’s 0-4 whitewash in Australia. However, the decision was reportedly reported by BCCI President N.K. Srinivasan was blocked.
Amarnath confirmed in a 2012 interview with CNN-IBN that the selectors were not allowed to act independently and expressed disappointment over not being given an independent hand to take decisions in the best interest of Indian cricket. Despite the internal pressure, Dhoni remained the captain in the tests till the end of 2014 and continued to lead India in limited overs cricket to January 2017, after which Virat Kohli took over.
