Flyover of Rs 422 crore drowned after heavy rains in Patna

New Delhi: A section of Patna’s newly constructed double over deck flyover has allegedly submerged after continuous heavy rains, which has increased fresh security concerns on the infrastructure. The structure was built at a cost of Rs 422 crore. It was inaugurated by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on 11 June 2025 and was spread to the crowded Ashok Rajpat corridor.Patna has received heavy rains in the last few days, causing severe floods in major areas including Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Exhibition Road and Gandhi Maidan. Waterlogging has disrupted daily life – roads, houses, hospitals and schools were submerged, with sewage overflow, traffic chaos and drainage infrastructure collapse.Tireless rains have overwhelmed poor drainage systems, which create disruption in daily life and indicate anxiety on the infrastructure affected, including flyovers. There are two levels of double-deck flyover. The upper deck is 2,175.5 meters long and traffic from Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The lower deck is 1,449.3 meters long and helps vehicles go from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan near BN College. Both decks, each 8.5 meters wide, connect to PMCH and have to reduce traffic jams in the city.Officials said that Ashok Rajpath will soon have four levels- two flyover tier, one ground level service road and upcoming metro underground.
